Zed Tshabalala is a well known race relations educator in Johannesburg, traveling throughout South Africa. She works with communities to build racial reconciliation following the damaging impact of Apartheid on people of all races in her country. During this interview, Zed shares the feelings and impact that Apartheid had on her life growing up, going to college, and now raising her own children. She explains,  however, that “Impact isn’t a strong enough word. It [Apartheid] defined me.” Zed’s oral history is an important record of how the history of Apartheid was lived by ordinary people. It is also an exploration of how the past connects to individual identity.

Interviewer:  Kim Nates (South Africa).
